From volunteering at the Night to Shine prom for special-needs individuals, to interning for Drag Racer Disco Dean of Discovery Channel fame, Avory Mayenschein is making the most of her time at Ohio Northern University.
“The memorable moments I have experienced at Ƶ could turn into a 10-page essay,” she said.
Before Avory started college, her mom wisely advised her: "follow your passions, and the money will come.”
Her chief interests are art history, painting, and business, so she is double majoring in studio art and marketing.
“But I have many passions that Ƶ has allowed me to follow,” she explains, “such as health and fitness, personal development, relationships, and involvement.” And through these experiences, she's gaining invaluable skills like leadership.
Each semester new opportunities come her way. She’s helped a local wedding venue plan a showcase event; traveled across the country as a social media and merchandising intern for a Discovery Channel celebrity; taken a class on food chemistry; joined the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority; and served on the Dicke College Dean’s Advisory Board—just to name few.
“I’m able to do all these things because everyone at Ƶ works together to build a very collaborative environment where students like me can succeed,” she said.
She described Ƶ as offering “a sense of home” where it’s easy to connect with other students and professors.
“For me, Ƶ checks all the boxes,” she added.
Looking to the future, she envisions a career in social media or branding.
“I would also like to explore the idea of owning my own business and incorporating my art into my professional career,” she said. “I have goals I would like to accomplish, but I am excited to see where the opportunities take me.”
